How to spend a weekend in January: Haus am Waldsee, Andreas Murkudis Sale, 032c Gallery
Agenda Edition #26 / January 2025 / Current mood: Currently unavailable
Hi, and welcome back to agenda - got plans?, a newsletter featuring a curated selection of art, design, and fashion events in Berlin. I'm Kate, a freelance journalist, Berlin local, and art lover. I hope my newsletter makes it a bit easier for you to navigate everything this city has to offer.
First of all: Happy new year and welcome to all the new subscribers, I’m beyond happy you found agenda - got plans?
Do you also have the feeling the city is slowly awakening again after being in hibernation mode for quite some time? It’s the first week(end) I’m exited about, so here are my top picks for the next days:
#1 Start your weekend with some serious people watching
In the mood for some mingling and people-watching? Head over to 032c Gallery at Kurfürstendamm 178 for the opening of “Content Industrial Complex”, a group show featuring seven artists (Allen-Golder Carpenter, Azize Ferizi, Paul Ferens, Shuang Li, David Shamie, Philipp Timischl, Ryan Trecartin).
Unfortunately, there’s not much information—actually, none—available about the exhibition itself. But I guess that’s the price you pay when trying to be an ultra-cool art space. Anyway, it’s probably one of the only places where you can expect to see well-dressed people this weekend.
Exhibition “Content Industrial Complex”
Friday, 10.01.2025, 18:00 - 21:00
Location: 032c Gallery, Kurfürstendamm 178, 10707 Berlin

#2 Enjoy a Long Friday at Haus am Waldsee
Depending on where you live, Berlin can feel anywhere from ugly to extremely ugly in January. For me, living in Wedding, there are days when I don’t even want to step outside – it’s hard to find beauty anywhere.
Luckily, better places are just a train (or car) ride away. If you’re craving a little Tapetenwechsel (a change of scenery), why not spend an evening in suburbia – specifically, Zehlendorf – at Haus am Waldsee? This art institution hosts long Fridays every second week, and it’s your last chance to see Gisele Vienne’s exhibition (…if you’re not afraid of dolls!). Plus, there’ll be drinks and snacks to make the evening even better.

#3 Check out the Andreas Murkudis Archive Sale
If you’ve been reading this newsletter regularly over the past few months, you probably know I’m highly critical of sample sales. The same goes for archive sales – they’re often just a clearance of the ugliest leftovers from past seasons that nobody wanted, even at a discount.
That said, there are a few stores in the city I trust enough to genuinely get interested about an archive sale, and the Andreas Murkudis Store is one of them. Maybe it’s because its founder, Andreas Murkudis, was one of the first people I interviewed back when I was a fashion journalism student. Although I couldn’t afford anything he sold back then (his store was one of the few carrying old Céline by Phoebe Philo!), I’ve always admired his concept and approach.
Anyway, back to this week’s sale: In addition to the regular shop, there’s an Archive, which will close permanently on January 29th. Starting today (January 9th), they’re hosting their final closing sale, with up to 90% off on ready-to-wear, objects, furniture, and more.
Andreas Murkudis Archive Clearance
Starts on Thursday, 09.01.2025
Location: Potsdamer Straße 98, 10785 Berlin

#4 Two-in-one Exhibition Opening at ChertLüdde
I’m forever and always a fan of exhibition openings. As usual, there are a few happening this week, but I think I’ll head to this two-in-one opening at ChertLübbe Gallery on Saturday: “In the End Something Begins with Us” by Ruth Wolf-Rehfeldt (a self-taught artist from East Germany) and “Controlling Chaos” by Canadian artist Vincent Trasov. You can read more about Ruth Wolf-Rehfeldt here (Öffnet in neuem Fenster) and find information about Vincent Trasov here (Öffnet in neuem Fenster).
The opening reception starts on Saturday at 6pm.

#5 Spend your Saturday Night at Studio1111
Not quite ready for clubbing but still in the mood for a night out? Head to Studio 1111 this Saturday for its seasonal opening.
Entry is free until 10 PM (and just 10€ after). The evening offers a photography exhibition by Daan Dam, a dance performance by Nicholas Rose, and sets by several DJs to set the mood.
What to expect? Honestly, I’m not entirely sure. I love the aesthetic of the place, but the crowd tends to stick to their own little groups, and dancing doesn’t really happen—or maybe I’ve just always left before the party got going. Still, it’s a cool spot with good drinks and relaxed vibes, so I guess it’s worth checking out!
You could perfectly combine this with the exhibition openings at Chert Lüdde or a visit at Neue Nationalgalerie which has extended opening hours on Saturday (open until 8pm). Keep in mind that you will need a pre-booked online ticket for the Nan Goldin exhibition (Öffnet in neuem Fenster). Apparently it’s so popular at the moment that they are working with time slots.
