Vintage Shopping, Old Masters and a lot of Photography

Agenda Edition #27 / 21.-23.02.2025 / Current mood: Hello again!
Hi, and welcome back to agenda - got plans?, a newsletter featuring a curated selection of art, design, and fashion events in Berlin. I'm Kate, a freelance journalist, Berlin local, and art lover. I hope my newsletter makes it a bit easier for you to navigate everything this city has to offer.
I spent the past few weeks traveling (for the first time in 10 years, I actually escaped the grey January instead of just complaining about it), which is why the newsletter was on pause for a bit. But I’m back, and here are my top picks for the weekend:
#1 Exhibition Opening: American Menace by Pouria Khojastehpay at 032c
There are plenty of new exhibitions happening right now, and honestly, I’m a bit out of the loop due to my travels. But! I’m working on a little guide with my must-sees for February and March.

This weekend, I’m excited about American Menace by Pouria Khojastehpay at 032c. Khojastehpay is a Dutch-Iranian artist and photographer currently based in the Netherlands. As always, 032c keeps details scarce online, but his work delves into the aesthetics and architecture of the American prison system—through letters and mugshots of incarcerated gang members.
American Menace by Pouria Khojastehpay at 032c Gallery
Opening: Friday, 18:00 - 21:00
On display until 26.04.2025
Location: Kurfürstendamm 178
#2 Last Chance: Der Berliner Salon at Gemäldegalerie
This season, instead of attending Berlin Fashion Week, I found myself wandering the streets of Taipei, sipping my daily milk tea. And honestly? It was amazing. But I’m still glad I’ll get a little taste of Fashion Week this weekend—thanks to Der Berliner Salon, an annual group exhibition of emerging designers, which is running until Sunday (!) at the Gemäldegalerie. The show features 55 up-and-coming designers, set against the backdrop of one of the world’s most renowned collections of Old Masters—think Cranach, Titian, Van Dyck, and Reynolds.
As a former fashion journalist, I’ve always loved putting fashion in conversation with other forms of art and exploring the deep connections between them. In this exhibition, placing contemporary designs among the Old Masters highlights parallels between past and present: both fashion and art grapple with representation, self-expression, sexuality, and gender roles.
Der Berliner Salon at Gemäldegalerie
Friday to Sunday: 10:00-18:00
Location: Gemäldegalerie, Johanna und Eduard Arnhold Platz, 10785 Berlin

P.S. There’s also a guided tour (Öffnet in neuem Fenster) on fashion history this Friday (4:30 PM) and Saturday (2:00 PM) for just €6 (plus admission)!
#3 Check out the Vintage & The People Market

If you’re in the mood for some vintage shopping, check out the two-day Vintage & The People this Saturday and Sunday. It promises a curated selection of handpicked Y2K and 2000s vintage pieces—but I have no idea about the pricing or quality, so it’s a bit of a gamble! The event is billed as a curated pop-up market, and alongside the vintage finds, you’ll also find Berlin-based brands selling cute hats, jewelry, and home decor.
Note: Admission is free, but you’ll need to book a ticket online (Öffnet in neuem Fenster) in advance!
Vintage The People Market: Berlin Edition
Friday (11:99-19:00)
Saturday (11:00-17:00)
Location: Lynk & Co Berlin
(Münzstraße 21-23)

#4 Sam Youkilis at C/O Berlin
If you're a loyal reader, you know how much I love C/O Berlin—I never miss an exhibition. What I appreciate most is not just their selection of photography spanning decades but also the way they contextualize the artists. I loved their Ren Hang exhibition, and they were the first in Germany to showcase Tyler Mitchell’s work.
Now, I’m beyond excited about two new exhibitions. First, Under the Sun by Sam Youkilis. If you're on Instagram, you've likely seen his videos. Some dismiss his work as too rooted in Instagram aesthetics, but I see it as a defining visual language of our time. I’ve followed him for years, and it’ll be fascinating to experience his work in a museum rather than on a screen. Will it feel different, even strange, given that his visuals are made for 9:16?
Under the Sun, Sam Yuoukilis
Location: C/O Berlin, Amerika Haus, Hardenbergstraße 22-24
On display: 01.02 -07.05.2025

#5 Contemporary African Photography at C/O Berlin

The second exhibition, A World in Common: Contemporary African Photography, presents 23 artists from across Africa and the diaspora. Inspired by Africa’s cultural richness and sociopolitical landscape, it draws on Cameroonian scholar Achille Mbembe’s idea of imagining “a world in common” by “thinking the world from Africa.” Like many Europeans, I grew up with a hyper Eurocentric view of art – what we were taught in school and saw in museums. I’m beyond happy to see this perspective shift in recent years.
