Horace, the great Roman poet, once said that 

"He who has begun has half done"

Frankly, it doesn’t seem like we’re even half of the way there yet, but we’re convinced it was vital to start this way, by cultivating a community of members “at a distance” around an ambitious work of initial reportage.

We’re about to take the first step towards becoming a true community media, which in the coming months we hope will be able to interact more and more effectively with its members; to grow (gradually) while producing higher-quality content.

On 2 August we’ll be meeting with our members to present the website and the first story.  But not only this. One of the members, and an external expert, are working on an in-depth commentary that we plan on making a regular feature called “connecting the dots”: these contributions, from inside and outside the community, will help situate the main story in a broader context, and provoke greater debate about it.

These “connecting the dots” materials will also be published on the ereb website (Si apre in una nuova finestra), to reflect the kind of media that we are working to develop: something lean, multilingual and focused on a small number of high-quality stories. The site itself was developed thanks to the work of Watermelon (Si apre in una nuova finestra), a graphic design and web development studio based in Bristol, UK. It will be filled with stories from all over Europe, or rather from all over ereb. For now we’ll be posting the reports and the members’ valuable contributions. Further ahead there might be podcasts and who knows what else.

The site will be open to the public - with the first story ready to read - very soon (keep an eye out, though, as in September we’ll be re-opening the membership programme!)

Nous n'avons pas l'impression d'avoir fait la moitié du chemin, mais on est convaincus qu'il était nécessaire de démarrer de cette façon-là, en cultivant une communauté de membres à distance autour d'un projet ambitieux de reportages.

Nous sommes sur le point de faire nos premiers pas en tant que média basé sur sa communauté, qui, on l'espère, pourra interagir de plus en plus avec ses membres et grandir, tout en produisant du contenu de haute qualité.

Le 2 août nous nous retrouverons au sein de la communauté pour présenter le site web (Si apre in una nuova finestra) et son premier reportage. Mais pas seulement. Un de nos membres, ainsi qu'un expert extérieur sont actuellement en train de plancher sur deux commentaires qui accompagneront l'article. Nous prévoyons d'en faire une contribution régulière, appelée « Connecting the dots ». Ces morceaux de texte aideront à situer l'histoire principale dans un contexte plus grand, et à stimuler le débat.

Les deux « Connecting the dots » seront présents sur le site et reflèteront le type de média que l'on souhaite créer : affiné, multilingue et concentré sur un petit nombre de reportages de haute qualité. Le site web a été développé grâce au travail du studio de design graphique et de développement Watermelon (Si apre in una nuova finestra), basé à Bristol au Royaume-Uni. Il sera rempli d'histoires de partout en Europe, ou plutôt de partout en ereb. On y trouvera plus tard également des podcasts, et qui sait quoi d'autre encore.

Le site sera ouvert au public très prochainement. Gardez l'œil ouvert, en septembre nous ouvrirons à nouveau le système de membership, pour tous.

Chi comincia è a metà del lavoro (e noi cominciamo, finalmente!)

A ereb non ci sentiamo a metà del lavoro, ma siamo convinti fosse fondamentale cominciare così, con una comunità di membri attorno e un primo reportage ambizioso “da lontano”.

Quello che stiamo per fare è il primo passo verso un vero media di comunità, che nei prossimi mesi speriamo capace di interagire sempre di più e sempre meglio con i propri membri. E di crescere gradualmente, insieme alla qualità dei suoi contenuti.

L’appuntamento con i membri è per il 2 agosto, quando presenteremo insieme a loro il sito web e il primo reportage. Ma non solo.

Un membro e un esperto esterno sono al lavoro per pubblicare pezzi di approfondimento o commento che abbiamo voluto chiamare “connect the dots”: contributi da dentro e fuori la comunità che allarghino il contesto del reportage principale e promuovano un maggiore dibattito intorno ad esso.

Anche i “connect the dots” verranno pubblicati sul sito web (Si apre in una nuova finestra) di ereb, che in fondo rispecchia il media che ospita: snello, multilingue, concentrato su poche storie, ma rigorose. È stato sviluppato grazie al lavoro di Watermelon (Si apre in una nuova finestra), uno studio di design grafico e sviluppo web con sede a Bristol, Regno Unito. Si riempirà di storie da tutta Europa o meglio, da tutta ereb. Ora, i reportage e i contributi di valore dei membri. Più avanti, i podcast e chissà cos’altro.

Per tutte e tutti, invece, il sito - con il primo reportage pubblicato - verrà aperto prestissimo (occhio, perchè a settembre riapriremo i nuovi programmi di membership!)
