An update from Lithuania (plus ten days til launch!)

Ten days from now we will – finally – be online over at ereb.eu (Si apre in una nuova finestra)with our first story.

--French and Italian version below --

During the event on 5 May – the first major virtual meeting of the ereb community – we asked ourselves, together with the participants, what it would mean to try and build a truly crossborder media.

Most of the responses fell into two categories: 1) collaboration between reporters from different countries and 2) attention to stories that are not limited to national frontiers (a few people also noted the importance of a “comparison of perspectives and points of view”).

We tried to stick to these guidelines while developing our first report on the Belarusian diaspora. Indeed, it was thanks to a suggestion by one of our members that ereb’s first authors will be reporters from Nara (Si apre in una nuova finestra), a media platform and journalist collective based in Lithuania, which has won numerous international awards.

Berta Tilmantaité, the co-founder of Nara (Si apre in una nuova finestra), was a guest on our community podcast Road to ereb (Si apre in una nuova finestra) this week, and we talked about the journalistic climate in Lithuania today as well as the migrations from Belarus, in advance of the report going live on the ereb site.

“It’s a piece that, through text and visual narrative, will tell the story of three generations of Belarusian migration.”

Berta Tilmantaitė (reporter for ereb & Nara co-founder, Vilnius)

Our members will be able to take a look at the new site and read an advance preview of the first story on 2 August, during their own exclusive live event. For everyone else: we’ll be re-opening the membership programme soon :)
