What MOST Guys WON’T Do (and strength eludes them as a result)

Arguably the greatest sci-fi movie ever made.
Probably because it’s so close to the Truth in so many ways, it’s frightening.
One of the most poignant lines?
"The Matrix is the world that has been pulled over your eyes to blind you from the truth."
It’s very similar between “training” and “working out.”
Here’s what I mean:
I believe in “training” - the attainment of a goal -
NOT “working out.”
And that’s because I was trained as and am at heart a strength & conditioning coach.
My background is to prepare athletes to WIN.
The head and team coaches handle strategy, tactics, and position skills.
I prepare the body for the rigors of competition, so the athlete can WIN.
Athletes, myself included - TRAIN.
We have “practice.”
Not random workouts.
Too many guys - most I’d say - are still “plugged in” to the “Workout Matrix.”
“Gotta get a good workout!”
“Man, that was a great workout!”
“WOO - THAT was a TOUGH workout!”
And as a result, they’re too focused on -
The weight they’re using.
The number of reps they’re doing.
The total number of reps they complete (in the KB world).
But many, if not most, have little to show for all their effort.
Now, I’m all for “Pride of Accomplishment” - hitting new PRs and the such…
But they have to be done in a manner that keeps moving you forward but not at the expense of
Decreased energy levels.
Sloppy technique.
Increasing injury risk.
And that’s what most guys just won’t do.
They won’t slow down, take the time and fully learn, refine, and “dial in” their kettlebell techniques.
They equate “good enough technique” + “more reps” = “better workout.”
Which is hilarious to me, because when I used to teach my live Kettlebell STRONG! Workshops, people would be sweating and huffing and puffing and downright shocked at how hard “just” 2, maybe 3 reps were when using the correct technique.
And that’s because using proper technique:
1- Uses more muscle
2- Uses the right muscles
3- And as a result, requires more energy
Even though it “appears” on the surface you’re doing “less work.”
You’re not.
You’re doing more “high quality” work - more of the right work - skill work, tactical work…
And less of the “wrong work” - the work that’s just garbage, low quality work…
Work for work’s sake that really only slows you down and keeps you from reaching your strength goals as soon as you’d like.
Case in point - I got this email from Tom the other day:
As you can see, Tom realized that:
The result of your RM is directly connected to your technique, or lack thereof (just like shooting a 3-pointer at will requires practice)
He’d shortchanged his previous RM attempts because he’d had “leaks” - technique leaks which sabotage your strength
Got 3 reps with a 4th in the bank with a pair of 32s on the Clean + Press, after using ‘The Foundation’ program. Pre-Foundation Program, he couldn’t budge them out of the rack.
All this in spite of overwhelming job stress
So, if you’re “working hard,” and having “great workouts,” but your results aren’t as good as you expect?
Why not do what Tom did and slow it down by learning proper double kettlebell lifting technique and applying it to “The Foundation” program -
A 6-week double KB program built around the -
Double Clean
Double Front Squat
Double Military Press

At the end of the day, slowing down, spending time learning the proper technique, and then practicing that new technique with proper programming is the key to seeing faster-than-you-are-now results.
That old military saying applies here:
Slow is smooth, smooth is fast.
