AI-generated works can still infringe on copyright even though they aren’t protected by copyright themselves. Copyright infringement is assessed based on outcomes, not process. Infringement can also be partial—you don’t need to have made an exact copy. Large-Language-Models are prone to randomly regurgitating memorised copies of training data, which increases the risk of accidental infringement.
