Film: Too Wong Foo, Thanks For Everything, Julie Newmar
A heartwarming film if you ever need one, amazed this got made in ’95 coz I can’t imagine many of today’s lead macho men giving such sincere performances as drag queens. If you need a pick me up, watch this one.
TV: The Curse
Only just started this one but obviously Nathan Fielder x Benny Safdie x Emma Stone was going to be incredible, it’s filled with squeaky bum time moments but really excited to see where the plot is going to go.

Film: Rosemary Clooney and Vera Ellen doing the Sisters number in White Christmas
A great classic film starring Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye putting on a really unhinged Christmas stage show at a failing hotel, with a scene stealing number by Clooney and Ellen. Not to be out done, Bing and Crosby later do the same number, lip syncing to women’s voices. Drag! In a 50s Hollywood film! The golden age goes woke! How insidious!
Music: Low’s Christmas album
Every year I return to this album. Christmas songs through the band’s distinctive slowcore minimalism hits my seasonal depression in just the right way. After the death of vocalist and founding member Mimi Parker in 2022, and the official dissolution of the band in 2023, these songs will last forever.
Decoration: Tinsel
I just love tinsel. Put it on the walls, scatter it on the table with the nibbles at the party, wrap it round the neck of the wine bottles, put it in your hair, on your Christmas costumes, hang it around your windows, let the glitter and shine into your life! The nights are dark and cold, you deserve to have a thousand dancing sparkle threads reflecting the light around your room, Christmas fairies at the maddest disco! Tinkerbell at a rave! I do believe in fairies! I do I do I do!

TV: Fleabag
It’s hardly a revelation to say ‘Fleabag is good’ but I was recently asked to vote in this GQ ranking (Öffnet in neuem Fenster) of the best British TV episodes of the century, and the final 50 included no less than three Fleabag eps, so I decided to wade back in to do a quality check. It really is amazing, and I think it’s more impressive with some time away, because for me at least, its themes of loneliness and love and laughing at yourself only seem to get more resonant as I age.
Drink: New Theory wines!
New Theory recently partnered with us for our Barbican Conservatory drinks event and I was so excited because I love their wine! They’re all super drinkable, and I’m an especially big fan of their pet nat (a naturally sparkling wine), Pot Luck. Read on to find out how you can win some to try for yourself…
We're throwing an exclusive giveaway with New Theory wines, and one lucky entrant will be the proud recipient of six stunning bottles, delivered to their door in time for the festive season.
