agenda - got plans?

Agenda Edition #15 / 08.-11.08 / Current mood: Sommerloch

Hi, and welcome back to agenda - got plans?, a newsletter featuring a curated selection of art, design, and fashion events in Berlin. I'm Kate, a freelance journalist, Berlin local, and art lover. I hope my newsletter makes it a bit easier for you to navigate through everything this city offers.

How are you? Berlin (or Germany in general) is in the middle of the so-called "Sommerloch": There isn't much going on culturally, except for a lot of food pop-ups and, of course, parties. Since I'm neither a food blogger nor Resident Advisor, you won't find much about those in this newsletter (okay, maybe a little). However, I will do an extra post about culinary happenings on Instagram and TikTok, so keep an eye out in the coming days!

That said, here are some activities and events I recommend this weekend:

  • Afterwork session at Haus am Waldsee

  • A not-so-garage Garage sale

  • Gallery hopping

  • My favorite movie in one of Berlin’s coolest open-air cinemas

  • Breakfast Burritos

#1 Long Friday at Haus am Waldsee

If you need a short break from the city buzz (and you can drive a car), check out Haus am Waldsee on Friday night. Every second Friday of the month, the art institution in Zehlendorf is open until 8 PM, hosting a little afterwork apéro. You can sit outside in the beautiful garden, enjoying a drink with your friends in a very chilled-out but posh atmosphere here.

If you arrive early, make sure to attend their guided tour through the current exhibition by Josephine Pryde, "How Frequency The Eye" (starting at 18:00). The guided tour is included in the exhibition ticket. The café offers changing specials, including snacks and Veneto Sprizz!

Every second Friday of the month, 18:00 -20:00
Location: Haus am Waldsee, Argentinische Allee 30, 14163 Berlin

… in case you want to stay in Berlin, I recommend this week‘s listening session at Gropius Bau on Friday night. I talked about it in my previous newsletter (Öffnet in neuem Fenster).

#2 UY Studios Garage Sale

Berlin-based brand UY Studios is ready for another round of its garage sale. Although there's no garage involved, it is indeed a sale, offering second-hand and vintage clothing, homeware, and UY prototypes. Everything is under 60 €. And it wouldn’t be Berlin without an open bar and a DJ set.

Garage Sale
Saturday, 12:00 - 19:00
Free admission
Location: Pflügerstrase 11, 12047 Berlin
More info (Öffnet in neuem Fenster)

#3 Gallery Hopping in Mitte

In case you don’t want to spend your Saturday at one of the crowded lakes like the rest of Berlin, how about some calming gallery hopping?

Saturday is your last chance to see Lukas Städler’s "Ouvertüre" at Dittrich & Schlechtriem (a queer photography project). Also coming to an end this weekend: the sculpture exhibition "Mouvements" by Robert Schad at Galerie Friese, as well as Edmund de Waal’s installation "letters home" at Galerie Max Hetzler IV.

Saturday, 11:00 - 18:00
free admission
Location: Dittrich & Schlechtriem (Berlin Mitte), Galerie Friese (Berlin Charlottenburg), Galerie Max Hetzler IV (Berlin Schöneberg)

#4 Breakfast Burritos and Drinks

Are you up for some breakfast burritos on Sunday morning? Well, Alex from Benchside Burritos has got you and me covered by hosting a day-long pop-up at the listening bar Anima. I have never been to the location before (it is inside the Hotel Locke), so I am excited to see what’s going on there and to meet some friends. Burritos will be served between 09:00 and 15:00 (or until sold out), but you can hang out there until 18:00.

Benchside Burritos
Sunday, 09-18:00
No reservation needed.
Location: Anima, Mühlenstraße 61-63, 10243 Berlin

#5 Perfect Days at Freiluftkino Insel | Open-air cinema

End the weekend with one of my favorite movies at Freiluftkino Insel on Sunday night: "Perfect Days" by Wim Wenders is a heartwarming, beautiful film with one of the best soundtracks I know. It’s the perfect movie for a relaxed open-air cinema experience.

Perfect Days
Sunday, 20:45
Admission: 11€
Location: Freiluftkino Insel at Atelier Gardens, Oberlandstrasse 26-35, Tempelhof
