Terry Kubicka: “We were shocked when Adam did the backflip”

Terry Kubicka is a former U.S. figure skater and 1976 Olympian. He was the first and until now only skater to legally have performed a backflip in competition when he did it at US Nationals, the Olympic Winter Games and World Championships in 1976. Kubicka was U.S. Champion and ranked 7th at the Olympic Winter Games in Innsbruck. He became a veterinarian and now serves as an ISU Technical Specialist at the Championship level. He of all people was on the panel for the Men’s event at the ISU World Figure Skating Championships 2024 in Montreal when Adam Siao Him Fa did the back flip in the Free Skating.

At the World Championships Adam Siao Him Fa did the backflip right in front of you. I thought it was so funny.

Terry K: It was. I mean when I saw him do it at Europeans, I thought, oh, that was interesting.
