Do you remember the last edition (Opens in a new window) of this newsletter, when we compared making a song with making a cake? 🍰

We left off with the part where we put the cake in the oven – meaning that our producer “sets the temperature right”.

So today, we thought you might enjoy hearing directly from Mario Fartacek (Opens in a new window)who produced our debut album Mere Illusions. Having started in February 2024 with three songs, we finalised the remaining tracks in January 2025 in his studio 💞

A few words about Mario

Mario Fartacek is a passionate music-producer, sound-designer and composer based in Vienna. He is – amongst many other musical projects – well known as one half of the Austrian-Amadeus-Award winning electronic-pop duo Mynth (Opens in a new window).

Over the past years, he has however become one of the most versatile talents within the Austrian music scene, producing for renowned artists such as Steaming Satellites, Telquist, Mynth, Carson Coma, Please Madame, Pippa and many more.

For us, it’s been an absolute pleasure working with Mario. We really appreciated his guidance throughout the whole process and his calmness as well as his passion 🥰

Bet let’s get into the interview!

ERNST: Mario, you are, amongst other things, both a musician and a producer. How would you describe what the role of a producer is in making an album?

I think the role of a producer is to help the band with its different individuals to preserve the emotions and essentials of a song as a time document.

ERNST: Of course, this is our first ever album and so it was a new adventure for us. What do you look for in bands that you would like to work with?

The songs must be very good! The band must burn and dream for something and be able to work hard for their goals. And of course it’s not a disadvantage if the taste in music is not too far apart. 😉

ERNST: In your experience, what is the most challenging thing when working with a band?

To find a way in a band’s hierarchy, where in the end every band member is able to relate to the final product in an emotional way. The challenge is to not lose some members along the way as a result of hierarchical or taste decisions.

ERNST: You might not want to say, but we’re going to ask you anyway 😉: What are your top 3 favourite songs on the Mere Illusions album and why?

Trigger, Umsonst and Letting Go!
All of those songs triggered goosebumps the very first time I’ve heard them on the demo! I always tried to stay close to that feeling during the production process.
