In diesem interaktiven Vortrag geht es um die beruflichen Möglichkeiten, die wir Wissenschaftlerinnen nach einem PhD in der Wirtschaft haben. Impact of Diversity Award
Das WUMANetzwerk ist beim Impact of Diversity Award mit dabei. Mit dem Award werden bemerkenswerte Diversity-Konzepte, Initiativen und engagierte Persönlichkeiten in 14 Kategorien ausgezeichnet. Wir stehen in der Kategorie Gender Inclusion für unsere Werte und Ziele ein und wir freuen uns unter der Auswahl mit so vielen tollen Initiativen und Unternehmen zu sein! Diese Kategorie zeichnet Unternehmen und Initiativen aus, die Chancengerechtigkeit der Geschlechter im Unternehmen fördern und strukturelle Hindernisse auf den Weg in divers besetzte Führungspositionen abbauen.
Das ist einer der vielen Gründe, aus denen wir WUMAN gegründet haben und wir kommen Netzwerkveranstaltung für Netzwerkveranstaltung, Aktion für Aktion, WUMAN für WUMAN und beim IOD2022 auch Stimme für Stimme dorthin!

Mannheim Open Science Meetup: January 27th
The Mannheim Open Science Meetup is a grassroots initiative that brings together Mannheim-based academics from diverse backgrounds with a shared interest in transparent, reliable research. Scholars from all scientific disciplines are welcome to join our recurring meetings, both experts and Open Science novices.
For the next meetup, Professor Julia Strand (Carleton College, Northfield, MN) will talk about “When Science Needs Self-Correcting”. Scientists, like all humans, make mistakes. However, finding and acknowledging those mistakes can be very difficult, given the incentive structure of science. In this talk, Julia will share the experience of finding a major error in her published work and the process of correcting it. She will also describe a new project called Error Tight: Exercises for Lab Groups to Prevent Research Mistakes that is intended to help lab groups identify places in their research workflow where errors may occur and pinpoint ways to address them.

Booster Impfung für Beschäftigte
Liebe Kolleginnen und Kollegen, liebe Beschäftigte,
den vergangenen Wochen hat sich die Universität intensiv bemüht, für ihre Beschäftigten ein Angebot mit Booster-Impfungen zu schaffen. Da zu Anfang des Jahres der betriebsärztliche Dienst gewechselt hat und der Impfstoff für die privaten Arztpraxen nicht in ausreichenden Mengen bestellbar war, war dies nicht ganz einfach. Wir freuen uns umso mehr, Ihnen nun in den kommenden Wochen an zwei Tagen Impftermine anbieten zu können.
Das Impf-Angebot im Überblick:
Termine: Dienstag, 25. Januar, und Dienstag, 1. Februar 2022
Uhrzeit: jeweils 15 bis 18 Uhr
Impfstoff: Spikevax® (Vaccine Moderna) von Moderna
Geeignet für: Personen über 30 Jahre (ausgenommen Schwangere). Die Booster-Impfung wird empfohlen für Personen mit vollständiger Grundimmunisierung, deren letzte Impfung mindestens drei Monate zurückliegt. Mehr Informationen (Öffnet in neuem Fenster).
Impfberechtigt sind: alle Beschäftigten der Universität Mannheim. Wer konkret dazu zählt, können Sie im Intranet (Öffnet in neuem Fenster) nachlesen.
Art der Impfung: vorrangig Booster-Impfungen; Erst- und Zweitimpfungen möglich, in diesem Fall bitte zusätzlich eine E-Mail senden an: impfen@uni-mannheim.de (Öffnet in neuem Fenster) (mehr dazu s.u.).
Anmeldung: Buchbar sind Termine – sobald verfügbar – unter https://intranet.uni-mannheim.de/impftermin (Öffnet in neuem Fenster).
Die Anmeldefrist endet jeweils freitags vor dem Impftermin um 12 Uhr.

Bitte bringen Sie die oben aufgeführten Dokumente unbedingt zum Impftermin mit.
Bei den Terminen werden vorrangig Booster-Impfungen durchgeführt. Grundsätzlich sind aber auch Erst- und Zweitimpfungen möglich. Bitte senden Sie in diesem Fall zusätzlich zu Ihrer Anmeldung eine E-Mail an impfen@uni-mannheim.de (Öffnet in neuem Fenster), da die Impfdosis für die Erst- und Zweitimpfung angepasst werden muss. Bitte beachten Sie außerdem, dass die Universität bei Erstimpfungen nach derzeitigem Sachstand keinen Folgetermin im empfohlenen Zeitraum anbieten kann. Um eine Zweitimpfung müssten Sie sich daher selbst kümmern.
Vor dem Hintergrund der stark ansteigenden Omikronwelle, die inzwischen auch die Rhein-Neckar-Region erreicht hat, möchten wir noch einmal betonen, wie wichtig Booster-Impfungen und auch die Grundimmunisierung sind – nicht nur zum Schutz Ihrer eigenen Gesundheit (insbesondere vor schweren Krankheitsverläufen) und der immungeschwächter Mitmenschen, sondern auch, um eine Überlastung des Gesundheitssystems und anderer kritischer Infrastrukturen zu verhindern. Daher unsere Bitte: Wenn Sie sich noch nicht haben boostern bzw. impfen lassen, tun Sie dies möglichst bald – und nehmen Sie dabei auch gern unser Impfangebot in Anspruch. Bei Bedarf werden zusätzliche Termine folgen.

Das Female Science Talents Programm der Falling Walls Foundation bietet wieder einen neuen Workshop an. Mit dem Workshop Female Talents in Science: Make Up Your Mind! #thepowerofconnection möchte das Female Science Talents Team junge Wissenschaftlerinnen darin bestärken ihre beruflichen Ziele sowie ihre Motivationen klar zu definieren. Mit der Hilfe von philosophischen Fragestellungen und interaktiven Übungen wird ein Blick auf die eigene Karriere und bestehende Machtdynamiken, die das Berufsleben prägen, gerichtet, um so neue Sichtweisen auf die eigenen beruflichen Ziele und deren Herausforderungen zu ermöglichen.
Wir möchten Sie herzlich dazu einladen die Ankündigung mit dem dazugehörigen Flyer in Ihrem Netzwerk zu teilen. Wir freuen uns auf zahlreiche Teilnahme von leidenschaftlichen Wissenschaftlerinnen mit und ohne Erfahrungen in Führungspositionen. GEW-Handbuch "Promovieren mit Perspektive"
Liebe Kolleg*innen,
gerne möchte ich eure Aufmerksamkeit auf das vollständig überarbeitete GEW-Handbuch „Promovieren mit Perspektive“ lenken, das vor Kurzem in der wissenschaftlichen Buchreihe utb. erschienen ist. Herausgeber*innen sind Dana Dülcke, Referentin im Vorstandsbereich Hochschule und Forschung, sowie Johannes Moes, Anton Plietzsch, Jessica Schülein und Torsten Steidten.
Das Handbuch beleuchtet in über 40 Beiträgen die Promotionsphase aus unterschiedlichen Perspektiven. Es werden alle relevanten Aspekte einer Doktorarbeit angesprochen: vom Exposé und der Betreuungsfindun, über die Finanzierung bis hin zu sozialrechtlichen Fragestellungen, Unterstützungsangeboten, Schlüsselqualifikationen, Mitbestimmungsstrukturen und beruflichen Perspektiven. Dabei werden Herausforderungen gerade auch in ganz unterschiedlichen Lebenssituationen von Promovierenden beschrieben: Promovieren an Fachhochschulen, Promovieren mit Kind, mit Beeinträchtigung oder chronischer Erkrankung und vieles mehr. Das GEW-Handbuch bietet somit eine reichhaltige Informationsquelle für Interessierte in Hochschule und Öffentlichkeit sowie auch für jene, die Promovierende beraten und unterstützen.

The action week is open to all teachers at the University of Mannheim. You will get new impulses for your teaching in the FSS and can exchange ideas with other teachers.

Mannheim Open Science Meetup: January 27th
The Mannheim Open Science Meetup is a grassroots initiative that brings together Mannheim-based academics from diverse backgrounds with a shared interest in transparent, reliable research. Scholars from all scientific disciplines are welcome to join our recurring meetings, both experts and Open Science novices.
For the next meetup, Professor Julia Strand (Carleton College, Northfield, MN) will talk about "When Science Needs Self-Correcting". Scientists, like all humans, make mistakes. However, finding and acknowledging those mistakes can be very difficult, given the incentive structure of science. In this talk, Julia will share the experience of finding a major error in her published work and the process of correcting it. She will also describe a new project called Error Tight: Exercises for Lab Groups to Prevent Research Mistakes that is intended to help lab groups identify places in their research workflow where errors may occur and pinpoint ways to address them.

Booster vaccination for employees
Dear colleagues
Dear employees,
In recent weeks, the university has been working hard to provide booster vaccinations for its employees. Since the company medical service changed at the beginning of the year and the vaccine for the private medical practices could not be ordered in sufficient quantities, this was not easy. We are all the more pleased to now be able to offer you vaccination appointments on two days in the coming weeks.
The vaccination offer at a glance:
Dates: Tuesday, January 25, and Tuesday, February 1, 2022
Time: in each case from 15 to 18 o'clock
Vaccine: Spikevax® (Vaccine Moderna) by Moderna
Suitable for: Persons over 30 years of age (except pregnant women). Booster vaccination is recommended for persons with complete basic immunization whose last vaccination was at least three months ago. More information (Öffnet in neuem Fenster).
All employees of the University of Mannheim are eligible for vaccination. You can find out who this specifically includes on the intranet. (Öffnet in neuem Fenster)
Type of vaccination: priority booster vaccinations; first and second vaccinations possible, in this case please send an additional e-mail to: impfen@uni-mannheim.de (Öffnet in neuem Fenster) (see below for more information).
Registration: Bookable appointments - as soon as available - are available at https://intranet.uni-mannheim.de/impftermin.
The registration deadline is 12 noon on the Friday before the vaccination date.
Please be sure to bring: Vaccination certificate, ID card or other photo ID, and the completed and signed medical history form. You will find all documents for download on the intranet (Öffnet in neuem Fenster).

Please be sure to bring the documents listed above with you to your vaccination appointment.
Booster vaccinations are given priority at the appointments. However, in principle, first and second vaccinations are also possible. In this case, please send an email to impfen@uni-mannheim.de (Öffnet in neuem Fenster) in addition to your registration, as the vaccination dose for the first and second vaccination must be adjusted. Also, please note that for first-time vaccinations, the University is currently unable to offer a follow-up appointment in the recommended time frame. You would therefore have to arrange for a second vaccination yourself.
Against the backdrop of the rapidly increasing Omikron wave, which has now also reached the Rhine-Neckar region, we would like to emphasize once again how important booster vaccinations and also basic immunization are - not only to protect your own health (especially against severe courses of disease) and that of immunocompromised fellow human beings, but also to prevent overloading of the healthcare system and other critical infrastructures. Therefore, our request: If you have not yet had a booster or vaccination, do so as soon as possible - and feel free to take advantage of our vaccination offer when you do. Additional appointments will follow if needed.

With the help of philosophical questions and interactive exercises, the workshop takes a look at one's own career and existing power dynamics that shape professional life in order to enable new perspectives on one's own professional goals and their challenges.

I would like to draw your attention to the completely revised GEW handbook "Promovieren mit Perspektive" (Promoting with Perspective), which has recently been published in the academic book series utb. The editors are Dana Dülcke, a consultant in the Executive Board's Higher Education and Research Division, as well as Johannes Moes, Anton Plietzsch, Jessica Schülein, and Torsten Steidten.
In over 40 articles, the handbook examines the doctoral phase from different perspectives. All relevant aspects of a doctoral thesis are addressed: from the exposé and finding a supervisor, to funding, social law issues, support services, key qualifications, co-determination structures and career prospects. In the process, challenges are described, especially in the very different life situations of doctoral candidates: Doing a doctorate at universities of applied sciences, doing a doctorate with a child, with an impairment or chronic illness, and much more. The GEW handbook thus offers a rich source of information for interested parties in higher education and the public, as well as for those who advise and support doctoral students.
