Nikolaj Memola: “I Love Competition”

Italian figure skater Nikolaj Memola had a rough start into the season. In summer, he broke his ankle and tore two ligaments. However, once fully healed, the 21-year-old became nearly unstoppable.

At the European Championships in Tallinn, he was unexpectedly the top Italian man, winning a silver medal. He then secured another silver at the Olympic test event Road to Milan, particularly impressing in the short program. Pirouette Magazine met him in Milan for an interview.

Things are going really well for you right now. What’s the secret to your success?

There’s no special secret, but I just feel incredible in training. I’ve been having a lot of clean run-throughs, and that gives me confidence. Plus, I’m injury-free and really trust in my performance. That‘s probably why things are going so well. Here in Milan, I felt very comfortable. The arena and the audience were amazing.
