Awards & more

Greetings, Steady supporters! This month’s update starts with a small apology. We recently became aware that due to an error on our end, you may not have received our March update by email. It still exists on our Steady page, so you can read it there (Öffnet in neuem Fenster) if you feel so inclined. Apologies for the mix up! We will endeavour to avoid the same mistake in future.

It’s been another quiet month for us on the publication front. These slower periods are fairly frequent for us - as a volunteer-run publication, capacity can fluctuate quite significantly month-to-month. It’s not a problem though, as we don’t rely on advertising for revenue, so we’re not driven to generate an ever-increasing number of clicks like some other publications are. This is one of the ways in which your support helps us, allowing us to maintain our position as a reliable (if small) platform for progressive voices even through periods when our volunteers are busy with other things.

That’s not to say we’ve been sitting on our hands all month, of course! The editing workshop that we mentioned in the last update went ahead in late March, and we were very pleased with how it turned out. We’ll be getting more feedback from our contributors, on that session and on the potential of running more similar training sessions in future, at our next general meeting, which is coming up at the end of this month. Among other topics, the general meeting will also be discussing the possibility of appointing an administrative co-ordinator to the Radical team - a Radministrator, if you will - to help us better deal with our back-end workload and hopefully work towards resuming a more consistent publication schedule. How exactly that will work is subject to the agreement of the meeting though. It could be quite a significant change, and we want to be sure we’re being both democratic and transparent to all our volunteers while we hash out the details (as always!)

One last thing to report before we leave you: as you may have seen on social media, we were very proud to receive two Independent Media Awards last month! They were the awards for Best Culture and Arts Publication, shared with myDylarama (Öffnet in neuem Fenster) and the Radical Art Review (Öffnet in neuem Fenster), and Best Regional/Local Outlet, shared with Manchester Meteor (Öffnet in neuem Fenster) and South Rugby News (Öffnet in neuem Fenster). We encourage you to check out the work of those other outlets if you’re not already familiar with them.

These awards are a real credit to the work of all our volunteers over the past year, and we’re very proud to have received them. And speaking of that work, see below some recent highlights! Until next time, stay Radical!
