Contribute to the next issue of BRICKS: #14 The Resilience Issue

The open-call for our annual print issue is now open – here, the BRICKS team shares details of the new issue’s theme and how to apply.

We’re excited to announce the theme for our next print issue, due for release February 2025, and to announce our open-call for photography, writing, illustration and graphic design pitches and submissions.

ISSUE THEME: #14 THE RESILIENCE ISSUE

The next print issue of BRICKS will explore what it means to be resilient  – the ability to successfully adapt to adversity, the capacity to withstand difficulties, and the tenacity to bounce back from hardship. These acts of courage are worthy of celebration, but what happens when the pressure to persevere gets too much? What are the repercussions when resilience is normalised, or even glorified? How do we honour this strength while acknowledging its sacrifices? Our latest issue will investigate the importance of resilience and also the burden of it, the insecurities it breeds, the fatigue it encourages, and the tokenism it can perpetuate.

OPEN CALL: PHOTOGRAPHY, ILLUSTRATION & WRITING

For #14 The Resilience Issue, we are looking for:

  • Photography pitches & submissions that are relevant to the theme

  • Illustration & illustration pitches & submissions that are relevant to the theme

  • Written features that are relevant to the theme

  • Written first-person essays that are relevant to the theme – these should be subject-specific, we are not looking for essays that explain ‘what resilience means to you’

At BRICKS, we cover subjects including fashion, music, art, beauty, mental health, politics, and the creative industry, and we’re always looking to amplify companies, people and projects that support communities. This issue theme has been inspired by our team’s experiences navigating mental and physical health difficulties, the pressures to be a public spokesperson for your identity, and feeling frustrated having to always ‘do it ourselves’ in order to be safe and sane in our creative practice.

Please send your pitches & submissions to submissions@bricksmagazine.co.uk (Öffnet in neuem Fenster) with the subject line: The Resilience Issue Pitch

Additionally, we’re always looking to work with new graphic designers when designing our annual print issue. To submit your portfolio for review, please send your work to submissions@bricksmagazine.co.uk (Öffnet in neuem Fenster) with the subject line: Print Graphic Designer

Deadline to submit your pitch: EOD 30th November
