Tempti Railway Crash: One Year Later, Victims Still Await Justice

It’s been one year since the deadly train collision happened on Tuesday, 28 February 2023, at 23.21 in Tempi, Central Greece. An accident that deeply shocked the country and left 57 people dead -one is still missing- and dozens more traumatized physically and psychologically. 

One year after “the biggest train accident in Greece’s history” (as the Panhellenic Rail Workers Federation head Ioannis Nitsas had then said (Öffnet in neuem Fenster)), little has been done for rail safety. At the same time, nobody but the ‘fatal’ stationmaster has been punished. 

One year later, the “Tempi” Transport Minister is still an MP enjoying parliamentary immunity,  while the government has made a mockery of the Parliamentary Investigative Committee. Furthermore, they try to obscure that Justice cannot prosecute MPs. The Parliament could, but they rejected setting up the appropriate committee.  

One year later, there has been no Justice for the victims and their mourning families.
