Lost to the Ages: The Hungry Hobbit, Birmingham
Its name was well-known to Brummies and tourists that made their way to Sarehole Mill on their Middle-earth pilgrimages: the Hungry Hobbit.
The self-titled sandwich bar (official nature of business: 56103 SIC (Opens in a new window) - Take-away food shops and mobile food stands) had been a mainstay for hungry visitors in a rush. Situated at 312 Wake Green Rd Hall Green, B13 0BN, Birmingham (Opens in a new window), its address will have sounded familiar to any serious Tolkien fan as the Tolkiens lived on (what is today) 264 Wake Green Road.
Thanks to a mention with File770 (Opens in a new window) I noticed that the people behind the Hungry Hobbit had rather quietly given note on Facebook on Nov 1, 2024 (Opens in a new window) that it would be closed after more than thirteen years.
Here is a story about some of the headlines it made.
