A25 could be closed for a fortnight
Work taking place on the A25 this morning
Gas company SGN closed the A25 near Reigate Heath on Monday for urgent repairs, and it is expected to last around two weeks. In an update yesterday the firm said:
“Following further investigations as we urgently repair our network along the A25, we're unable to complete a permanent fix and will be replacing the affected section of pipe.
“Our engineers will be replacing 75m of pipe and the road remains closed to motorists in both directions, between its junctions with Flanchford Road and Colleymanor Drive.
“A signed diversion is in place for affected road users. Eastbound motorists should follow the diversion route via A24, A240, A217 and A25. For westbound motorists, please follow A217, A240, A3, A243 and A24.
“This closure is expected to last approximately two weeks. We're working between 6am and 10pm to complete this work as safely and quickly as possible.”
Updates from SGN are expected to appear on its website (Abre numa nova janela) and there’s also the county’s roadworks map (Abre numa nova janela).
Work in Bancroft Road continues
Bancroft Road last week
A lane remains closed in Bancroft Road, causing traffic to back up into Church Street and, at busy times, beyond.
Thames Water has told reigateuk that work began on 22 June to fix a rising main (a waste water pipe), but they can’t currently give a completion date.
“Teams are working hard to resolve it and we are sorry for any disruption it is causing local residents and road users,” the spokesperson said.
The Surrey Highways roadworks map (Abre numa nova janela) says the permit currently runs until Tuesday 9 July. Tankers can be seen making regular visits.
Music: the English Arts Chorale have been in touch about a concert that’s taking place this Saturday, 6 July, at 6pm at St Mary’s Church in Reigate.
The evening will feature “Elgar's Sea Pictures with other cameos of the natural world by Lauridsen, Finzi, Stanford and Britten, in a tapestry of exquisite musical moments”. Details and tickets are here (Abre numa nova janela).
An after-show end of season buffet requires a separate ticket.
Planning application for new dentist
As seen from Bancroft Road at its corner with Bell Street
Plans have been submitted (Abre numa nova janela) to convert space at 37 Bell Street into a dental surgery. The building is Grade II listed.
Asked whether it is going to be a private or NHS facility, the dentist said “As the planning permission hasn’t gone through yet, I’m unable to confirm if we’re definitely opening a dental practice in 37 Bell St.”
The location was previously occupied by kitchen firm Reigate Kitchen, who are moving (Abre numa nova janela) to a new warehouse and showroom in Copthorne.
Sushi, bento and more
Korean-Japanese eatery Kokoro (Abre numa nova janela) is now open in Cage Yard, near Morrisons, joining existing branches in Redhill and Dorking. Eat-in and takeaway options are available.
