The HaptiClavier #1
Thinking more about suitable tone generators for the Open Pianoide, I came up with the following experimental layouts, inspired much by the work of tonginstruments.com (Si apre in una nuova finestra) , some patents for tuning forks from the 1960s and my own vague ideas:

Incidentially, the layout turned out to be pretty much exactly the key width on a Fatar keyboard.
This inevitably led back to the roots: instead of striving for a keyboard instrument with a complictaed and noisy mechanism, why not design an instrument that’s played directly by your fingers, like the beautiful chromatic Mbira/Kalimba instruments shown by tongsinstruments.
So the idea of the HaptiClavier was born, but stay tuned, there is more to it than a fancy name for a chromatic calimba.
A lot more, as will be explained in later posts.
