Film Recommendation
There’s nowhere in the rules that says we can’t pick a short film for our weekly recommendation slot, and so here we are with the 30-minute film that put Andrea Arnold on the movie map. 2003’s Wasp won the Academy Award for Best Live Action Short, and it’s not difficult to see why. The film follows young council estate mother-of-four Zoë (Natalie Press) as she attempts to perform her vague but earnest approximation of good parenting. There’s no father (or fathers) on the scene, no food in the cupboard, no money in the purse, but their dingy maisonette is infested with bugs of all varieties.
