As we wrap up 2024, we are happy to connect with you one final time this year to share an overview of the latest articles and activities available to our members.
We sincerely thank you for your meaningful support throughout the year. With your help, we have been able to deliver new articles each month and successfully close our second Open Call for Writers. We are now collaborating with 12 talented international writers from the fields of art, design, and jewellery to present a new series of online articles on the theme of Visual Language.
Looking ahead to 2025, we are preparing extensive programming for Munich Jewellery Week, including the accompanying MJW Paper, new printed chapters of our magazine, and another edition of the Obsessed! Interview with Michaela Pegum
Michaela Pegum (Si apre in una nuova finestra)’s work is rooted in material experimentation, where fabrics, stitching, and electro-forming merge to create evolving, hybrid sculptures. Her pieces inhabit the threshold between the known and the unknown, incorporating performative elements that engage the body and movement, fostering interaction between the artist, audience, and environment. Pegum’s practice is driven by a continuous exploration of invisible forces that shape our perception and understanding of the world.

SOFT IN THE WATER
The Pearl And Queerness
‘The first time I touched a real pearl, I was 18 years old, and I immediately put it in my mouth. This action wasn’t entirely spontaneous: a classmate of mine in a community college jewellery studio gave me a handful of half-drilled freshwater pearls as a gift and informed me that I could verify their authenticity by rubbing them against my teeth and feeling for grit. However, in the fictionalised theatre of my memory, I imagine that I put the pearl in my mouth not to determine its authenticity, but because it was born within flesh, and it felt fitting for it to return to flesh.’
