Japanese Vintage, Sunglasses & Ice Cream
Agenda Edition #16 / 16.-18.08 / Current mood: It’s my birthday
Hi, and welcome back to agenda - got plans?, a newsletter featuring a curated selection of art, design, and fashion events in Berlin. I'm Kate, a freelance journalist, Berlin local, and art lover. I hope my newsletter makes it a bit easier for you to navigate everything this city has to offer.
How are you? It’s my birthday on Saturday, and I’ll be spending the day and night celebrating with loved ones, eating cake, and dressing up. Even if it’s not your birthday weekend, here are some ideas to make this weekend feel like your special day:
Visit a vernissage on Friday night
Get your hands on some Japanese vintage clothing
Treat yourself to beautiful flowers and vintage furniture
Have ice cream instead of cake
#1 Gustav Düsing “Ephemerals” at Dittrich & Schlechtriem | Vernissage
No week without an exhibition opening: Join Mitte-based Gallery Dittrich & Schlechtriem on Friday evening for the exhibition opening of Gustav Düsing’s “Ephemerals.” Düsing’s approach combines architecture, natural phenomena, and environmental responsiveness to create experiences that challenge traditional perceptions of space and structure. Confronting the challenges of a changing climate has become central to the architect’s work.
Gustav Düsing “Ephemerals” Vernissage
Friday, 16.08, 18:00-20:00
Location: Dittrich & Schlechtriem, Linienstrasse 23, 10178 Berlin

#2 Summer Listening Sessions | Gropius Bau
I’ve often talked about the Berlin Beats rave sessions at Hamburger Bahnhof in this newsletter, and I’ve mentioned this event before as well: Today is your last chance to enjoy the three-part Summer Listening Sessions at Gropius Bau. The art institution invites us to its summer terrace for DJ sets by Castro and Nemo from Sound Metaphors. The evening will be accompanied by cocktails and street food from Restaurant Beba.
Sound Metaphors: Summer Listening Sessions
Friday, 16.08, 18:00 - 21:00
Free admission
Location: Gropius Bau, Beba Terasse, Niederkirchnerstraße 7, 10963 Berlin

#2 Temporary Tokyo Pop-up | Vintage Fashion
I don’t know about you, but I’m all about Japanese vintage. It’s often in better condition than most things you’ll find here in Berlin, usually better curated, and often less pricey (as long as you’re not hunting for that vintage Chanel bag from 1998).
Naturally, I’m super excited about the Temporary Tokyo pop-up store at Julius this weekend. Temporary is a conceptual vintage store based in Tokyo, so if you’re not planning to visit Japan anytime soon, I highly recommend checking out their collection. I’m also a big fan of hosting a clothing pop-up in a chic bistro like Julius!
Temporary Tokyo Pop-up
Thursday - Sunday, 11:00 - 17:00
Location: Julius, Gerichtstraße 31, 13347 Berlin

#3 Garden Party by Studio Linné & Otto Inside | Flowers & Furniture
Is there a better combo than flowers, furniture, and cold drinks? Visit Studio Linné’s flower shop this Saturday for their one-day pop-up with Otto Inside, a Berlin-based shop for vintage designer furniture. Picture 1970s space-age coffee tables, chrome chairs, and Murano glass vases. If that’s your vibe, go snag some furniture treasures and a big flower bouquet!
Otto Inside at Studion Linné
Saturday, 17.08, 12:00 - 19:00
Oranienstraße 199, 10999 Berlin
#4 Yun x Early Bird Ice Cream Pop-up
Another combo I didn’t know I needed: sunglasses and ice cream. Korean eyewear shop Yun is hosting a fun ice cream pop-up with Early Bird Gelato this Friday and Saturday. Early Bird is a super cute café and ice cream shop in Prenzlauer Berg—I’m a big fan of their olive oil ice cream!
They’ll be giving out free scoops of their signature “yun” flavor (could it be yuzu?) along with free €10 vouchers toward your new pair of sunglasses.
Yun x Early Bird Ice Cream Pop-up
Friday and Saturday, 16.08 and 17.08, 14:00-19:00
Yun Store, Rosenthaler Straße 11, 10119 Berlin
