RR+: Does Orkish Sound Evil? Perception of Fantasy Languages and Their Phonetic and Phonological Characteristics

This question may sound odd at first but given the fact that J.R.R. Tolkien was a leading philologist of his times and his ‘conlang (Opens in a new window)’ activities of huge importance to his creativity - an understatement, one might argue! - this issue should be of great interest.

I had listened to an early version (Opens in a new window) of Professor Christine Mooshammer (Opens in a new window)’s work at a Tolkien Thing (Opens in a new window) of the German Tolkien Society and was intrigued by her arguments.

Now, a first version of the work done so far has been published with Language and Speech (Opens in a new window).
