Fingolfin's Findings: XXII. St Anthony of Padua, Headington, Oxford

On Sept 6, 1973, a requiem Mass was read for J.R.R. Tolkien who had died on Sept 2. His son, Father John, celebrated the Mass, assisted by Father Robert Murray, a close friend of the family, and the parish priest, Monsignor Wilfrid Doran. The location was St Anthony of Padua, the church Tolkien had been visiting ever since it was built in 1960. It is still in use today and part of the Archdiocese of Birmingham (Opens in a new window).
