The Royal Mint and its 2023 Annual Sets - including a JRR Tolkien £2 coin

The United Kingdom does not only have a new king who needs new coins, 2023 is also the year with many events on the 50th Anniversary of J.R.R. Tolkien's passing on Sept 2, 1973. The Royal Mint has taken note and will be offering a £2 coin. Interestingly enough, at the time of writing quite a few details do not seem to be clear as of yet - including its individual publication date.

There are a number of questions people have been asking on this particular coin and although the FAQ section (Opens in a new window) of the Royal Mint is fairly extensive is becomes clear pretty quickly that this particular project seems not to be as fixed as many fans would love to have it.
