The year was 2007. Sam Raimi was on the stump for his new Marvel sequel, Spider-Man 3, Jim Carrey was playing pantomime psychopaths in The Number 23, and I was prepping for a big piece on the cinema of Japan’s favourite cinematic son ahead of a series of film screenings and home ents releases. My recommendation for May for you, our beloved members, is the greatest film by the Japanese director, Akira Kurosawa.
