Dear reader,

I want to let you know of a special Alec Riley day on Peter Hart’s battlefield tour of Gallipoli in August–September.

Michael Crane has plotted an itinerary of Helles that covers many of the places mentioned in Alec Riley’s Gallipoli diary (Opens in a new window)

Mike has made a detailed study of this ground over many years, and we’ll benefit from his knowledge of the trenches and terrain. We’ll also see some of the hidden “attractions” that Mike has located on the battlefield.

One of Mike’s maps that he will make available to the group. An aerial photograph taken by the RNAS is shown alongside a Google Earth and trench map overlay

We will be walking the ‘silent nullahs’ on 31 August 2022.

Contact and booking details can be found on the Peter Hart Battlefield Tours website (Opens in a new window). Pete’s tour runs from 29 August to 5 September 2022.

See Peter Hart Battlefield Tours Twitter (Opens in a new window) and Facebook (Opens in a new window) for photographs and drone footage from the May tour to Gallipoli. The photographer is Warren Smith, who’s shared some photos with us:
