How To: Manage Your Finances For Easy Tax Returns

This week, we’re sharing our favourite tools to manage your finances and make tax season a breeze.

It’s that time again – and by that we mean self assessment tax return filing time. For those based in the UK who have earned more than £1,000 in freelance income between April 2023 – April 2024, the deadline to file your tax return is midnight tonight.

This also applies to anyone who has multiple sources of income, has received any untaxed income (for example, through independent online brand partnerships) or anyone who is self-employed and earns less than £1,000 but wishes to pay Class 2 NICs voluntarily to protect their entitlement to their state pension or certain benefits.

So that means whether you’re a full-time freelancer, or you do some occasional paid work on the side of your day job, you need to check if you should file a self-assessment tax return with HMRC. You can check if you need to file via the Gov.uk (Opens in a new window) website here (Opens in a new window).

When it comes to filing your tax return, the more organised you are with your finances throughout the year, the easier it will be to file your self-assessment come January. Below, we’re sharing some of our top tips and tools for making tax season less treacherous, and keeping your finances organised year-round.
