Agenda Edition #3 / Current mood: Another bank holiday?

Hi, and welcome back to agenda - got plans?. This newsletter features a curated selection of art, design and fashion events in Berlin. For everybody new here: My name is Kate and I started this project out of frustration. I am a big art and design enthusiast, always searching for cool happenings around the city. But I am super bored of the typical Berlin tips you can find online. And as somebody who is quite up-to-date with stuff happening in this city, I thought: Why not do it by myself?

From now on, I will showcase a handpicked selection of niche events around here. I hope my newsletter makes it a bit easier for you to navigate through everything this city has to offer.

That said, what is happening in Berlin this week(end)?

  • last chance for visiting a very fashionable exhibition

  • a party organized by one of Berlin’s coolest hairdressers

  • an art exhibition where you can get tattooed

  • free entry at Neue Nationalgalerie

  • a guided tour at Gropius Bau

#1 Last Chance: Miles Aldridge at Fotografiska

If you haven’t seen the Miles Aldridge exhibition (Opens in a new window) at Fotografiska yet, I would go check it out as it closes on Sunday: Miles Aldrige’s Virgin Mary. Supermarkets. Popcorn. Photographs (1999-2020) is the largest collection of the photographer’s work. It showcases over 80 photographs, including his "Immaculée" series, which depicts modern-looking models as religious figures. Portraits of cultural icons like Donatella Versace are also present!

Miles Aldridge at Fotografiska
Location: Fotografiska Berlin, Oranienburger Straße 54, Berlin, Germany
Opening hours: 10:00 -23:00
Last entry is 30 minutes before closing.

#2 Club愛 × TAIGA

Taiga (Opens in a new window) is a super-talented hairstylist from Tokyo. He has become renowned in Berlin for his artistic take on hair design and styling. For this event, Taiga will design the set and an installation that is inspired by the nightlife of both Berlin and Tokyo. Inviting all his clients to the dance floor, the scene will transform into a live exhibition of Taiga’s work. Which means: This is the perfect place for you if you are bored with your hair and need some inspiration.

#4 Pallavi Paul: How Love Moves x Gropius Bau / Guided Tour (ENG)

Sometimes art does not need an explanation – but sometimes it makes everything much more exiting once you get a bit of context, no? In this guided tour, curator Sonja Borstner provides insights into Pallavi Paul’s artistic research and her current exhibition at Gropius Bau that traces the cycle of breath across lovers, collective dying, ruination and mourning amidst the impacts of industrial society and collapsing health infrastructures.

Guided Tour: How Love Moves, Pallavi Paul
Friday, 10.05, 17:00 (60 min, Language: English)
Location: Gropius Bau, Foyer

#5 NUANCE: Contemporary Tattooing & Group Exhibition

Last but not least – I am super thrilled about this event!! Nuance is a group exhibition and contemporary tattoo flash event taking place at Kunstquartier Bethanien. You can get tattooed by some of Berlin’s finest tattoo artist and stroll around the exhibition. It showcases painting, drawing, installations, ceramics and tattooing as a performative act.

Even if you are not into tattoos (yet) but interested in art in general, this exhibition could be a great introduction to the world of tattooing.
