Vilapa Kusumanjali verse 6

Join us in our Zoom class about verse 6 of Vilāpa Kusumāñjali, the sweet rasik book of Ragunātha das Gosvāmī with the commentaries of Ananta dās Bābaji, lecture by Pratibha Goswami.

Verse 6:

»I take shelter of my lord Sanātana Gosvāmī, who was an ocean of compassion and who always felt sorry for the suffering of others. Although I was unwilling and blinded by ignorance, he diligently made me drink the nectar of devotion laced with renunciation.«

Sanātana Gosvāmī, the elder brother of Rupa Gosvāmī, was the instructing spiritual master of Srila Ragunātha dās Gosvāmī. Listen about the sweet relationship between them.

Śrī Raghunātha dās actually came to Vraja (after the disappearance of Śrīman Mahāprabhu and Svarūpa Dāmodara) to commit suicide by jumping from Govardhana Hill, but Sanātana Gosvāmī, who is suffering when others are unhappy, and who is an ocean of mercy, saved his life.

In this satsang we discuss the meaning of renunciation in bhakti, which happens spontaneously rather than as a deliberate decision. Renunciation follows bhakti and is no independent endeavor. We give up material things because of a higher taste.

Another topic is bhajan-nishta, steady chanting of the holy name and meditating on the pastimes of Priya-Priyatam.
