Happy Diwali!
Thursday 31 October - Friday, 1 November 2024
Diwali is one of the major religious festivals in Hinduism, Jainism, and Sikhism. The name derives from Sanskrit - dipavali - meaning “row of lights.”
The festival generally symbolises the victory of light over darkness. As Lady Mohini Kent Noon from World Upshift Organisation explains:
“When Sri Rama returned to Ayodhya after 14 years of exile, and after fighting an epic battle with the demoniac forces, he was greeted with lighted lamps. The darkness was dispelled and goodness had prevailed. He was crowned king.”
