We are delighted to be hosting a Fireside Chat with Rashmee who is in Rome on her way to Assisi for our Equinox Meditatio (Opens in a new window)n on 20 March. (Opens in a new window)
One of the topics Rashmee recently wrote about was democracy, Happy 2024, the year of Elections , (Opens in a new window) and we would like to pursue this issue in our conversation.
The year 2024 is a record year for elections. More than 4 billion people – half the world’s population – will vote in some 70 countries: Bangladesh, Pakistan, India, Indonesia, South Africa, Russia, the UK, US, to name just a few.
We will talk about some of the books on contemporary democratic issues that Rashmee has reviewed for her newsletter This Week, Those Books. We will also talk about Rashmee’s own passion for democracy and democratic renewal.
Can democratic resilience be strengthened by re-igniting a love for democracy in the hearts and minds of the people? Is a democratic upshift on the way and if so how will it manifest itself?
