24. Supporters and Subscribers

It’s long been a tradition in publishing to rely on the financial support of subscribers to help make a book a reality.

Often this took the form of a pre-order or a promise to purchase a book and in return the supporter would be listed in the back of the book in the list of subscribers.

In Iceland this is still practised for memorial editions or celebratory reissues of works, in which case the list is often called Tabula Memorialis or Tabula Gratulatoria, respectively.

This practice has been resurrected in recent years by many publishers as a form of crowdfunding. One notable example is the London publisher Unbound, where I used to work several years ago.

In my case, the following people helped make the print edition of Out of the Software Crisis happen with their early support, for which they get my sincere thanks.

The list is sorted in the alphabetical order of the first name as that is the custom here in Iceland. Anything else would honestly look a bit untidy to my Icelandic eyes.
