Do women see things differently than men? I think the answer is a resounding: yes and no.

Everyone sees things differently.

Women may see things less technically and more emotionally – this is demonstrated by many interviews and experiences from workshops, but it's also simply a stereotype...

You surely perceive things differently than I do. You have a keen eye for what interests you – and I for completely different things.

I think it is simply about different approaches to the world – and these are different for every person.

This diversity makes street photography so rich. And that is why it is so inspiring to go on a photo tour together: you discover twice as much.

Women-only workshops – why, exactly?

It was not my idea: I was asked to do it. And it turned out: a special space was created in women-only workshops. And so I am repeating this experience.

What happens in these workshops?

We hardly talk about technique – but a lot about posture, about seeing, about proximity, about courage. Women in my workshops often fulfill the cliché: They care little about pixels, lenses, or light intensity. Instead, it is about empathy, intuition, and how to connect with people on the street.

Ich denke, die Antwort ist ein klares Jein...

Jeder sieht die Dinge anders. Frauen sehen manches vielleicht weniger technisch und emotionaler – das zeigen viele Interviews und Erfahrungen, aber es ist auch einfach ein Stereotyp…

Ich habe darüber einen Artikel im Street Photography Magazine geschrieben (auf Englisch), s.o.

Du nimmst viele Dinge sicher anders wahr als ich. Du hast ein scharfes Auge für das, was dich interessiert – und ich wiederum für ganz andere Dinge.

Ich denke, es geht einfach um unterschiedliche Zugänge zu unserer Welt – und die sind bei jedem Menschen anders.

Diese Vielfalt macht die Straßenfotografie so reichhaltig. Und deshalb ist es so inspirierend, zu zweit auf Fototour zu gehen: Man entdeckt doppelt so viel.

Workshops nur für Frauen – warum genau?

Es war nicht meine Idee: Ich wurde gebeten, sie durchzuführen. Und tatsächlich: In den Workshops nur für Frauen entstand ein besonderer Raum. Und so wiederhole ich diese Erfahrung.

Was passiert in diesen Workshops?

Wir sprechen kaum über Technik – dafür viel über Haltung, Sehen, Nähe und Mut. Die Frauen in meinen Workshops erfüllen oft das Klischee: sie kümmern sich wenig um Pixel, Objektive oder Lichtintensität. Stattdessen geht es um Empathie, Intuition und darum, wie man mit Menschen auf der Straße in Kontakt tritt.

Und ganz generell die Menschen wieder mit der Natur verbinden.
WIR möchten Wissen auf eine Weise vermitteln, die alle abholt und dazu motiviert, die Natur und ihre biologische Vielfalt zu schützen. Nur so ist es langfristig möglich, unsere eigene Gesundheit und das Wohlergehen der nächsten Generationen zu gewährleisten.

I produced several small booklets with the Association Initiative Mensch und Natur e.V. I M u N. Our booklet library is intended to transmit a legacy of joy, knowledge, and impact. Available in 10 x 15 cm format for a jacket pocket, the booklets are intended to accompany readers on the go.

The latest print is a Spanish translation of the story of MONITA, set in Peru: a young monkey becomes a superhero. Together with her friends, she reforests a tropical rainforest that had been destroyed. The book and its illustrations are based on research that my colleague and friend Prof. Eckhard Heymann conducted in Peru for decades.
