How I Became: A Cover Star Photographer with Sammy King

This week, BRICKS editor Chiara Maculan speaks to Californian director and photographer Sammy King about her career journey in the creative industry.

Los Angeles-born filmmaker and photographer Sammy King has been making waves in the London music and fashion scene, channelling her creative energy into music videos, fashion, and art films – honing her craft while redefining filmmaking through her unique perspective. Portraying a range of artists and actors such as Troye Sivan (Abre numa nova janela), Kit Connor (Abre numa nova janela) and Beabadoobee (Abre numa nova janela), she describes her style as a "dreamy haze of nostalgia”.

Sammy draws inspiration from her twisted sense of Hollywood, viewed through the lens of European cinema. Her passion for capturing nostalgic and surreal worlds through her lens shines through as she recounts her experiences and the creative process behind her most cherished projects, including her cover shoot with Sky Ferreira for ES Magazine (Abre numa nova janela), and her Gucci X Hypebeast film (Abre numa nova janela).

Read below as we delve into Sammy's artistic evolution, the obstacles she faced, and her vision for the future in an ever-changing industry.
