How I Became: A Music Video Director, with Aidan Robert Brooks
This week, director and producer Aidan Robert Brooks shares the creative process behind his latest music video.
A few weeks ago, I got to enjoy one of my favourite perks of my job – I got sent a great piece of work, and I got to preview it early. The work in question was a new track, ‘Autumn’, from London-based multi-hyphenate Graecyn (Abre numa nova janela). Instead of receiving this through a traditional PR or music manager, I was sent the song via another multi-talented creative – director Aidan Robert Brooks (Abre numa nova janela), who had recently directed the song’s corresponding music video.
The song hears Graecyn reflect on a short-lived love affair, recounting its hopeful beginning, abrupt ending, and the endless unanswered questions it left behind. Brook’s music video beautifully captures the tenderness and intoxicating high of a new crush, as well as the poignant nostalgic lens Graeycn reflects on the relationship through.
Having worked in production for almost a decade, Brooks has previously produced projects for artists including Joesef, Sam Smith and Kojey Radical. Now transitioning to directing, Brooks worked with Graecyn to direct and produce the ‘Autumn’ music video totally independently, without label-backed budget and facilities.
Below, Aidan Robert Brooks shares the inspirations and creative process behind his latest music video.
