Film Recommendation
This week’s recommendation is a little paean to those movies that take the majority of a lifetime for you to get around to watching, and when you finally do, you heartily regret having not taken a bite sooner. Indeed, these films are so present in your general cultural purview, through references and other media (in this case, remakes and stage adaptations), that you almost feel as if you know the film without having even seen it.
My late grandfather, who died in the year 2000, was very big into comedy films, and our visits to his house usually ended up with me and my brother dusting off a VHS tape from his vast holdings and gawping at the screen for hours on end. Laurel and Hardy were the main offerings, as it was practical that the films were mostly short and medium length.
