RR+: Does Orkish Sound Evil? Perception of Fantasy Languages and Their Phonetic and Phonological Characteristics
This question may sound odd at first but given the fact that J.R.R. Tolkien was a leading philologist of his times and his ‘conlang (Si apre in una nuova finestra)’ activities of huge importance to his creativity - an understatement, one might argue! - this issue should be of great interest.
I had listened to an early version (Si apre in una nuova finestra) of Professor Christine Mooshammer (Si apre in una nuova finestra)’s work at a Tolkien Thing (Si apre in una nuova finestra) of the German Tolkien Society and was intrigued by her arguments.
Now, a first version of the work done so far has been published with Language and Speech (Si apre in una nuova finestra).
Enjoy!
