Vilapa Kusumanjali – verse 7, part 2

Satsang and lecture by Pratibha Goswami on Vilāpa Kusumāñjali, the sweet rasik book of Ragunātha das Gosvāmī with the commentaries of Ananta dās Bābaji.

Verse 7:

»O Svāmini (my mistress Rādhe)! The heart of this maidservant constantly burns in a great fire of separation from You. Being thus afflicted, and crying with great love, I lament in the following verses!«

In this satsang, we explore the second part of Ananta Das Babaji’s extensive commentary on this verse. This time, we delve deeply into the sweet, rasik pastimes of Radha and Krishna, and experience some of the ecstatic emotions felt by Tulsi Manjari as she serves in the nikunj (secluded grove).

We also hear about the intense condition of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu during his final years in Gambhira, and his longing to taste the mood of the manjaris. Additionally, some insights are shared about the relationship between the manjaris and the sakhis.

The last 20 minutes feature a heartfelt conversation among the attendees.

Sweet quote from the book

One day Svāminī is angry with Śyāma and Kṛṛṣṇa comes to Her kuñja, dressed as a girl, trying to please Her, but Svāminī gives a hint to Tulasī to kick Him out of the kuñja:

śaṭho'yaṁ nāvekṣyaḥ punar iha mayā māna dhanayā
viśantaṁ strīveśaṁ subala-suhṛdaṁ vāraya girā
idaṁ te sākūtaṁ vacanam avadhāryocchalita-dhīs
chalāṭopair gopa pravaram avarotsyāmi kim ahaṁ

(Utkalikā Vallarī 59, Rūpa Gosvāmī)

"I will not look at this cheater anymore! I will keep the wealth of My honour! Subala's friend (Kṛṣṇa) has entered My kuñja, disguised as a girl! Stop Him!" O Rādhe! When can I, after hearing these anxious words of Yours, stop that best of cowherds from entering?" Tulasī then tells Kṛṣṇa: "O rogue! There are no demons here that You can delude in this enchanting dress like Mohinī! We are Rādhā's kiṅkarīs, we can understand all Your tricks! Realize Your own deceitfulness and get out of this kuñja!" iṅgite bujhibo sob kāj (Narottama Dāsa Thākura): 'I will understand all my duties simply on Their hints.'

(Raghunath das Goswami: Sri Sri Vilapa Kusumanjali, commentaries by Ananta das Babaji, Kolkata 2014, verse 7, p. 29)
