Strasbourg meeting galvanises support for participatory democracy

From 19-21 March 2025, New European People’s Forum took part in the 9th Annual European Gathering on Participatory Democracy in Strasbourg

The European Gathering on Participation takes place every year in Strasbourg, organised by Décider Ensemble, a think tank that focuses on shared decision-making and stakeholder dialogue.

This year’s event took place this year from 17-21 March in Strasbourg and New European People’s Forum was delighted to be able to take part in the event.

The event featured over twenty online workshops organised by national, European and international actors in citizens participation, public participation and public consultation.

Innovative and inspiring experiences in deliberative democracy were shared with think tanks, professional associations and public bodies such as city and regional councils from France and across Europe.

To judge from the level and vibrancy participation in this well-attended and informative event, participatory democracy is alive and well in Europe, and has a promising future especially at local and regional levels.

New European People’s Forum looks forward to taking part again next year and to making a contribution by hosting a workshop there in collaboration with our partner organisations who specialise in deliberative democracy.
