Dear Family,
I hope this message finds you well and inspired. Recently, I briefly shared one of the Civil War's most audacious events in a video on social media about Harriet Tubman's leadership of the Combahee Ferry Raid. Thanks to your continued support on Patreon and this newsletter, we can delve deeper into such pivotal historical moments together.

The Prelude to the Raid:
Before the Civil War, Harriet Tubman was already a symbol of defiance against slavery through her work with the Underground Railroad. Her efforts caught the attention of Union forces, leading to a collaboration with Colonel James Montgomery, a partnership rooted in a shared commitment to freedom.
The Night of the Raid:
On the night of June 2, 1863, Tubman and Montgomery led 150 Black Union soldiers in a mission that would free more than 700 enslaved people. Their objective targeted the economic backbone of the Confederacy along the Combahee River. Through Tubman’s gathered intelligence, the raid avoided Confederate traps, leading to a successful operation that significantly impacted the Confederacy's resources and morale.
Harriet Tubman: A Leader Among Men:
Tubman's contribution to the raid was crucial. Her planning, intelligence gathering, and ability to inspire and lead people were evident as she guided the newly freed individuals to safety. It is said her voice, singing a gospel hymn, became a guiding light amidst the uncertainty of that night.
The Aftermath and Legacy:
The raid's success was a notable blow to the Confederacy and a significant milestone in the fight against slavery. Tubman’s leadership during the raid underscored her legacy as a pivotal figure in American history and one of the first women to lead a military operation in the United States.
The Combahee Ferry Raid stands as a powerful example of strategic brilliance and human compassion combined to challenge the injustices of the time.
