EU ratifies high seas treaty

France to ban smoking in key public areas to protect children
From 1 July, France will ban smoking on beaches, in parks, near schools and at bus stops to protect children from second-hand smoke. This new legislation is intended to help foster a tobacco-free generation by 2032. It reflects the growing public support for smoke-free spaces and prioritises clean air for young people. Study finds Indigenous practices protect forests better than parks
In Panama, forests on Indigenous lands remain intact nearly twice as effectively as those in protected areas. According to a McGill study attributes this success to cultural and spiritual land use rather than strict exclusion.
