Dusk to downers

In the dusk of my despair,
I turned to downers for some air,
A fleeting relief, a moment's spare,
But soon the darkness did deceive.

The pills they promised relief sweet,
But instead, they led me to defeat,
A cycle of despair and pain,
That I could not break nor sustain.

And so I go for a better way,
To cope with all my thoughts each day,
With help and care and love and light,
I found my way back to the fight.

For though the road is long and hard,
And I may stumble, trip, and scar,
I know that in the end, I'll find,
The peace and joy that's mine, in kind.

So let the dusk give way to dawn,
And let the shadows all be gone,
For I am stronger than I knew,
And I will rise, anew, anew.
