It's been a busy time here at WLD!

In case you missed the big news, this week we released our latest printed newspaper – almost two years after launching our first pilot edition (Opens in a new window).

We're producing a printed version of WLD to reach those who may not be able to access the online version.

Our latest issue looks at the rising cost of living and what it means to people, as well as putting the focus on the work of food bank volunteers across West Leeds.

We also put the spotlight on our new community newsroom in Bramley, look at the importance of Swinnow Community Centre, and feature campaigns to get more people playing bowls in Stanningley Park and West Leeds Rugby League Club’s bid to create a new community facility in Armley – and more!

The paper is available to pick up at these venues across West Leeds:

The paper has been written by our community reporters - and both the reporters and our trustees have helped to distribute the paper too. It's been a real community effort! My sincere thanks to everyone who has helped out.

Next issue is out in May.

As well as the paper, on Thursday we started our latest free six-week community reporters' training course at our new community newsroom at Bramley Lawn.

The course will help train people to help tell the story of their community over the next six weeks and our new recruits seem a lovely bunch and are full of enthusiasm and ideas!

I've recently paid a couple of visits to the homework club which runs every Friday teatime at Broadlea Community Centre (pictured above). It's run by fantastic volunteers from the Bramley Care Bears group and I've been helping youngsters write articles for our next print edition.

Oh, and our next community quiz night is at the West End pub on Wednesday, 6 April from 7pm, with a 7.30pm quiz start. You are, of course, very welcome to come along and meet our frendly board of trustees and community reporters - and enjoy your favourite tipple.

Thank you so much for your ongoing support. Without you, we wouldn't be able to do any of this. Your support of independent community led journalism in West Leeds is genuinely appreciated.
