Hiking ban, Grammy for Björk and more!

Hello again,  High Five Club Members and prospective members!

We're back with your weekly roundup of all things Iceland, from us at the Reykjavík Grapevine to you, our loyal supporters.

First up, is the Reykjavík Newscast (Opens in a new window)! In this edition (Opens in a new window), Valur (and Pollý of course) talk about an amazing miscalculation of the census, wherein it turns out there are fewer Icelanders than we initially thought.

Also, the cover story of our new issue (Opens in a new window) is the one and only Hekla Magnúsdóttir, Iceland’s most famous theremin master, who has been making waves overseas and just dropped a new album. Read our fascinating conversation with her here (Opens in a new window).

We’ve also got former chess grandmaster Margeir Pétursson (Opens in a new window), a new documentary on Icelandic pool culture (Opens in a new window), the best places to get hot chocolate (Opens in a new window), and much more.

In other news, the Kirkjufell hiking ban might be illegal (Opens in a new window); it’s still not legal to name yourself Lucifer (Opens in a new window); Björk got a Grammy nomination (Opens in a new window); and more (Opens in a new window)!

Lastly, we’ve got some great events (Opens in a new window) coming up over the next few days; check them out if you can!
