News in brief

Is it yours? Surrey Police have published photos of hundreds of items that have been recovered in ongoing burglary investigations. They weren’t necessarily taken in Surrey, but they’re worth a look (Opens in a new window) if you’ve had something stolen.

Just over 1 in 20 trains (5.3%) were cancelled at Reigate station, and 16.6% of those that did run arrived at the station more than three minutes late, in the four-week period to 1 February. The corresponding numbers for Redhill were 6.2% cancelled and 20.1% late. Publication of the data (Opens in a new window) from the Office of Rail and Road for stations across England has been hailed by the Government (Opens in a new window) as marking a “new era of rail accountability”.

Reigate Summer Festival will take place on 20-22 June: “a celebration of the town’s creativity, a weekend of free entertainment for the local community and beyond” - music, art, dance and film are among the events already added to the list (Opens in a new window) at venues across the town centre.

Cronks Hill and Somerset Road, Meadvale: the installation of speed reduction measures means that daytime closures for these two roads (which lead on to one another) are expected from today, Monday 10 March, until Saturday 15 March. The Surrey roadworks map (Opens in a new window) says for Cronks Hill the closure is 9.30am - 4pm between the junctions of Cronks Hill Road and High Trees Road, and for Somerset Road the closure is 8am - 5pm between the junctions of Cronks Hill and Copse Road.

Nutley Lane: the road’s closure at its junction with Beaufort Road and Yorke Road, continues, with signs from Thames Water now giving an end date of 14 March for its sewer repairs. That tallies with information on Surrey’s roadworks map (Opens in a new window).

  • Taken Saturday (8 Mar) - staff were working on-site but are out of shot

Wray Common Primary School has been awarded £750 (Opens in a new window) to set up an outdoor classroom. The sum was part of £3,000 of prize money awarded to five Surrey schools from points donated by people taking part in weekly waste reduction tasks in the Rethink Waste scheme - sign-up is here (Opens in a new window).

Gatwick Airport is holding a job fair in Crawley on Wednesday 19 March (Opens in a new window) where there’s the chance to meet 22 employers based at the airport - not just the airlines, but also other sectors including retailing and hospitality.

Police, fire and ambulance attended Three Arch Road near East Surrey Hospital on the morning of Wednesday 26 February, following a concern for safety. Sadly a 57-year-old-man died at the scene: Surrey Police said (Opens in a new window) they didn’t believe there to be any third-party involvement.
