When Does HBL PSL 8 Start?
The PSL is Pakistan's largest domestic cricket competition, but what really is it and how much do we know about it? PSL, or Pakistan Super League, is a T20 cricket competition that was first established on September 9, 2015. Every year, it is usually played from February through March, and starting in 2018, there will be a total of six teams in the game.
Tournament Arrangement
In the Pakistan Super League, a cricket sporting competition, each team will play the other twice in various stadiums in Pakistan. Teams receive two points if they win, while they receive one point each if the game is abandoned for any reason, including bad weather.
In the PSL schedule 2023 (Opens in a new window) top four teams on the table will advance to the playoffs after the conclusion of this Round of the series, while the remaining teams will be eliminated.
The victor of the eliminator squares off against the loser of the opening playoff match in the second qualifier. The winner advances to the championship game.
On paper, it appears to be a little bit complicated, but in practice, it's simple to understand, and it's a better system than having straight semi-finals.
When Does the PSL Start?
While the PSL's exact start dates will vary from year to year, it usually kicks off in the third week of February. The HBL PSL 8 (Opens in a new window) for 2023 gets underway on February 13. The competition begins with the group stages.
After the knockout rounds, the final will typically take place in late March or early April. The competition has operated within this format for many years, but these dates are likely to change.
PSL Partner Teams
The PSL will have six franchise teams as of 2018. The teams who participated in 2017's games will still be present, and they are:
· Multan Sultans
· Lahore Qalandars
· Peshawar Zalmi
· Islamabad United
· Quetta Gladiators
· Karachi Kings
These are just a few examples.
In the future, two more franchises will be added, bringing the total number of teams to eight.
Player Auction
Every event has a player auction prior to it. The franchises will choose for their services the cricketers who wish to play in the PSL and make themselves available for selection via the auction.
PSL auctions have a variety of categories. The PSL offers players in five different categories: platinum, diamond, gold, silver, and emerging.
The players will decide on a category that serves as a sort of reserve amount. Any team that wants to sign the player must offer in that range as a minimum.
Each franchise team is put together before the new season at the conclusion of the auction. Of course, there are ways to bring in substitutes for players who are hurt or must leave for any other reason.
The HPL PSL team management provides a retained list before the start of that auction. These are the squad members who have already committed to the team for the upcoming season.
PSL Match Rules
The PSL8 format adheres to T20 cricket regulations. The objective is to score more runs than the opposing side in the allotted 20 overs for each team.
In the same way that a target is established by the team batting first in T20 cricket, so too does the HBL PSL. The fielding side then gets to bat, and they have to score more runs than that amount in the allotted number of overs.
The team batting first prevails if the team batting second is unable to surpass the target. While bowling teams are free to deploy as many bowlers as they like, each bowler is limited to a total of four overs.
