What is a CBD-Infused Beverage?

BD, or Cannabidiol, is a naturally occurring compound found in the cannabis sativa plant. Certain varieties have been bred to express CBD in much higher quantities than their more common counterpart, THC, or tetrahydrocannabinol, which is more commonly used for recreational purposes and is associated with the typical “high” from smoking cannabis. These CBD-dominant strains are colloquially known as hemp, and are frequently used for much more therapeutic purposes.

Distillate refers to a product created from purifying crude oil that is extracted from the biomass of the hemp plant. Contained in this oil are a wide range of cannabinoids, terpenes, flavonoids, sterols, and other compounds that have potential therapeutic value. After a number of steps to remove unwanted compounds from the oil, such as chlorophyll and other pigment molecules, lipids and waxes, the distillate yielded appears very similar to honey, and comes in three main types; Full Spectrum, Broad-Spectrum, and Isolate CBD (Opens in a new window).

• Isolate CBD, the purest form of the extract, is processed to remove every other compound, including other beneficial cannabinoids and terpenes, leaving behind >99.5% CBD.

• Broad Spectrum Distillate is processed to remove most of the THC down to trace levels, but can still contain a range of other cannabinoids such as CBG, CBC, CBN, etc.

• Full Spectrum Distillate, the type of distillate used in Present, is processed to remove only the unwanted compounds, and contains the complete range of cannabinoids, including THC, that were found in the original plant material.

Full Spectrum CBD Distillate contains nearly all of the compounds that naturally occur in the hemp plant. As a whole plant hemp extract, it captures terpenes, essential oils, and other cannabinoids so you can experience the “Entourage Effect” and get the most out of your CBD!

Since oil is not water-miscible, a special process must be applied to the distillate before it can be added to a water-based drink such as Present. Using some specialized equipment and basic organic ingredients, the Full Spectrum CBD distillate is encapsulated in Organic Acacia Gum, which is water-soluble, and suspended in an aqueous solution. This water-soluble CBD solution is then added to Present at a dosage of 20 mg per can. While Full Spectrum distillate is used in the making of Present, each can contains only trace amounts of THC, and so it would be extremely difficult to get “high” or experience any “psycho-active” effects from drinking it.
