I regret to inform you that the trailer for the animated series Blade Runner: Black Lotus sucks. It's bad. The animation looks bad, the design looks flat and the story is the old boring "woman doesn't know who she is but SNAP somehow has assassin skills" trope mashed with some gadgets from the Blade Runner movies. The trailers for not one (Opens in a new window) but two (Opens in a new window) animated Star Trek-series both suck too and I'll give it a pass on all three of those suckers.

Michael Night Shyamalans “Old” startet bei uns am 29. Juli im Kino und sorgt in den USA bereits für einen Meme-Storm. Im Film landet eine Gruppe von Leuten an einem rätselhaften Strand und altert in rasender Geschwindigkeit. Der Film ist laut Rotten Tomatoes auf eine nahezu perfekte Art mittelmäßig und steht bei Publikum UND Kritikern bei rund 50% (Opens in a new window), die Memes zu Shyamalans Geriatric-Mystery-Schinken (Opens in a new window) kriegen von mir so 84-92%.

Der Guardian reviewt "Summer of Soul" (Opens in a new window), dessen Trailer (Opens in a new window) ich vor ein paar Wochen gezeigt hatte, und hält ihn für den möglicherweise besten Konzertfilm aller Zeiten, was, da das "bester Konzertfilm aller Zeiten"-Label bislang eigentlich exklusiv für Martin Scorsese vorgesehen war, höchst erstaunlich wäre. Ich habe "Summer of Soul" noch nicht gesehen, er ist aber in meiner Watchlist grade ein paar Stellen nach oben gerückt.

Gesehen habe ich neulich im Kino The Green Knight (Trailer (Opens in a new window)), David Lowerys stylishe Adaption der Artus-Legende um Sir Gawain und dessen Odyssee zum Duel mit dem titelgebenden Grünen Ritter. Der Film schwelgt zwischen großartigen, floral-morbiden Bildern in tollen, ungesättigten Farben und ein paar eleganten Kameraschwenks, der Mythos wird angereichert mit einer Menge Sex und ein wenig Feminismus. Schöne Arthouse-Fantasy für Hipster mit Schnurrbart. Vier von Fünf Sternen für die Kunst. Sir Gaiwan wird gegen Ende von Monty Pythons Ritter der Kokosnuß übrigens von einem wahnsinnigen Karnikel enthauptet, ansonsten spielt er in dieser legendären Adaption der Artus-Legenden keine große Rolle.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife 

Set in the universe of the first two Ivan Reitman films from the 1980s, "Ghostbusters: Afterlife" tells the story of Callie, a single mom struggling to survive in Chicago with her two kids, 12-year-old Phoebe and 15-year-old Trevor. When Callie receives news of her long-estranged father's passing - a father she never even knew - she and the kids pack up the Subaru and move to the small midwestern town of Summerville.

As the family settles into their "inheritance," a rotting, worthless dirt farm, they soon discover that they have mysterious ties to a team of paranormal investigators called the Ghostbusters, the specter-catching team who saved New York City from supernatural destruction 35 years ago.

A childless couple in rural Iceland make an alarming discovery one day in their sheep barn. They soon face the consequences of defying the will of nature, in this dark and atmospheric folktale, the striking debut feature from director Valdimar Jóhannsson.
