Indian Robin Hood Virapan Gondar, the most dangerous criminal in the history of India

When you see him for the first time, you may think that he is a homeless or a lunatic and crazy with strange mustaches and lives in the woods. But what if I told you that his name was on the list of the most dangerous criminals in India? For more than three consecutive decades, not only that. The Indian government has allocated an annual budget, the most expensive in twenty years, for whoever catches him or kills him

Who is Viraban Gondar?

Born in Virapan, Gondar in 1952, his family was poor, in the southern Indian state of Karnataka. As for his son Viraban, he wanted to have a different kind of life, the life of bandits and outlaws, and he would be inspired by this idea from one of his relatives, who was known as Salvai Gondar. Sandals are illegal and Salvai Gondar made huge profits estimated at millions of dollars annually. Veraban decided to join his uncle's gang and hunted Villa for the first time at the age of fourteen.

Virapan Gondar's Crime History

The first murder committed by Viraban Gondar was at the age of 17 and from here began the bloody history of Virapan, which was full of looting and killing, and he was known for his strong hatred for the police, so he executed every policeman he encountered and hung their bodies in the forests

According to police reports, Veerappan killed more than 150 policemen at his own hands and at the hands of his gang. Not only that, but Verappan was killing anyone suspected of collaborating with the police. Meanwhile, Veerappan has earned the title of India's Robin Hood. He was famous for helping the poor and giving them money to stand against the police and the government, which his supporters accused of corruption and ignoring the demands of the poor.

Was he arrested and how did they kill him?

The task of the police was difficult to arrest him because of the cooperation of the people of the villages and the cover-up for him repeatedly over a period of four decades. In 1986, the police succeeded in arresting Verappan, but he was released due to a bribe amounting to 2,000 US dollars. Verappan became famous in 2000 when the famous Indian actor Raj Koman was kidnapped for more than three months for ransom paid by the government. He was also known for kidnapping politicians in order to implement his demands. A politician who served as a former agriculture minister whose body was found in the woods during his captivity. As for the governments of Kerala, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu in southern India, they set a reward of 8 million rupees for whoever heads it. Especially after Veerappan drained more than $100 million in government funds in order to track him down and arrest him. In 2004, the government finally managed to get Virapan Gondar and killed him along with two of his aides while they were hiding in an ambulance during an operation known as Cocoon. With the death of Virapan, the nightmare of the Indian police ended.
