Middle East Conflict Reaches Bundesliga

Dear listeners,

the violent conflict in Israel and Gaza has overshadowed sports events globally, and in the Bundesliga specifically, where two players got in trouble for social media posts. Mainz suspended striker Anwar El-Ghazi who had just recently joined the squad whereas Bayern Munich decided to leave Noussair Mazraoui with the team after a stern talking to and a statement by the club that left some disappointed. But the show must go on and Bayern don't have any depth at Mazraouis position.
Of course, there were games played as well, with Union deep in crisis after another loss, Dortmund looking not good but successful in 2023 and a Rheinderby that showed that both Köln and Mönchengladbach will have nothing to do with the top half of the table this season. Last but not least, lowly Augsburg came back from 2-0 at newly promoted Heidenheim to win 5-2 in new manager Jess Thorup's debut.
